Here is a brief on the establishment of the Nigerian Maritime University Okerenkoko, Delta State.

The Nigerian Maritime University (NMU)

The Nigerian Maritime University (NMU), is established and owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria, and is located in Okerenkoko with its takeoff campus at Kurutie Warri southwest Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Federal Ministry of Transport acting through the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and in the execution of its mandate, proposed the establishment of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Warri southwest Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria.

Okerenkoko, where the permanent site of the University is located sits on the left bank of the Escravos River noted for shipping and inland waterborne transportation. The Escravos River opens into the Atlantic Ocean and it is a preferred route for ocean-going vessels engaged in the oil and gas industry.The University was established in response to the chronic shortage of professional human capital and global competitive technical know-how in the maritime industry and economy.

Nigerian Maritime University (NMU) Admission Requirements

For the 13 officially accredited course, here are their admission requirements.

  1. The Faculty of Transport

This faculty has four departments that include

  • Nautical Science
  • Transport Logistics Management
  • Marine Economics and Finance
  • Port Management

B.Sc. Nautical Science

  • Five credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry  Biology and Geography
  • JAMB Subject Combination: English Language,  and three of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology

B.Sc. Transport logistics Management, B.Sc. Marine Economics and Finance, and B.Sc. Port Management

  • Five credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and one other social science subject
  • JAMB Subject: English Language, Mathematics, Economics and one other social science subject
  1. The Faculty of Engineering

It has five departments which include:

  • Marine Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Petroleum and Gas Engineering

Below are the admission requirements needed for admission in the university.

  • Five credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English Language, Mathematics, Physics Chemistry and Biology
  • JAMB subject: English Language, Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology
  1. The Faculty of Environmental Management

It has four departments which include:

  • Environmental Management and Pollution
  • Meteorology and Climate Change
  • Fisheries and Aquaculture
  • Marine Geology

B.Sc. Environmental Management and Pollution Control, B.Sc. Meteorology and Climate Change

  • Five credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other social science subjects or one social science subject and any other subject
  • JAMB subject: English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other social science subject

B.Sc. Fisheries and Aquaculture, B.Sc Marine Geology

  • Five credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science and Physics/Economics/Geography
  • JAMB Subject: English Language, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and Mathematics/Physics
