She is from Lagos State and originated from Isale Eko in Lagos Island. She was given birth to on the 5th of February, 1980 in the capital of Lagos state, Ikeja.

When she was still in her tender age, her family had to relocate to London with her where she grew up and spent most of her years there. As time went on, they later relocated to the United States where she continued her studies and later graduated and obtained a degree.

She’s officially a singer, a performer, a songwriter and an actress. She sings and speaks fluently in English and Yoruba and she is known as the Mavins first lady. Tiwa is being loved and respected by many due to her romantic vocals, pedigree, jaw drop gorgeousness, consistency and her ever beaming stage performance.

Birth and Early Life

Tiwatope was born on the 5th of February, 1980 in the Lagos State. Due to her family’s frequent relocations, she grew up in a multicultural setting; and this has all reflected on her unique settings, presentations and songs. She is well equipped and shows enthusiasm every time to make her music career very successful unlike most of her female counterparts in the music industry.

Due to the fact that she secured a good background in Music, she now has an edge over others in Nigeria Music Industry. She got this motivation at the college where she studied when she started singing professionally. After she graduated from college, she got back to Nigeria to launch her music career; and with her knowledge from school, she was able to handle a music career successfully.


Tiwa’s education all evolved in London when her family relocated from Nigeria. There, she obtained a degree in Business Administration from the University of Kent. She later graduated and obtained another degree from Berklee College of Music, Massachusetts in the United States at the age of 27. These educational qualifications helped her understand the Nigerian music industry and also gave her an edge over others when she got back to Nigeria.


Music CareerTiwa’s career as a musician began so long a time before she got back to Nigeria. She began singing right from when she was still in high school. She was known by her excessive performance playing the trombone for the orchestra band in her school and as well did backups for some singers. She did backups for singers like Mary J Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Chaka Khan, George Michael, Blu Cantrell and other still while she was a teenager. In 2006, still studying at berklee, she participated in the UK X-Factor but couldn’t make it to the final 12 stopping at the last 24. This was bad news for her at that time, but she moved on undiscouraged by her failure and challenge of stage fright she was battling with that time.

In 2009, she signed a deal with Sony /ATV Music. The deal saw her write for the likes of Kat Deluna, Babyface, Monica and Fantasia Barrino. In 2010, she made collaboration with Fantasia on the song titled “Collard Greens & Cornbread” and this earned the American Artist a Grammy Nomination. She wrote songs for lots American artists while in the states including Jaicko’s “Oh Yeah” that featured Snoop Dogg, and Kat Deluna’s “Push Push” featuring Akon and David Guetta. She also performed background vocals on Whitney Houston’s album “I look to you”.

She established her own record label, “323 entertainments” with her manager and then husband “Tee Billz”. In 2012 she got signed into Don Jazzy’s Mavins record Label after her manager (husband) decided to work together with Mavins boss, Don jazzy. She started work on her debut studio album in 2010 but it was later launched in 2013 due to some legal constrictions and her desire to make it a hit. She held her album listening party in May 2013 where she revealed the entire track list of the project and announced the artists she made a collaboration with. In July of 2014, it was rumored that Tiwa Savage had made a deal with Roc nation. This swept the media until she went on Instagram to confirm the rumor not being false. She was the first Nigerian artist to sign a management and distribution deal with the US record label and the best record label in the world.

In July 3, the album was officially launched after all the myriads of hitches and long waits. She named it “once upon a time”. The brain behind the name was to inspire other upcoming artists never to be perturbed by setbacks, stating her as reference.

On her thirty-third birthday, TeeBillz Tiwa’s then manager surprised her publicly with an engagement ring. This was a beautiful and elegant fairy-tale engagement and made the others girls jealous. Nigerian Superstars like Davido were in attendance.

With joy in her heart, she agreed and they had their traditional marriage and later white wedding in 2014. They two lovebirds were both living happily until they welcomed their baby boy in 2015. The news was so exciting and she was put more in the social eye by her fans.
