Birth and Early Life

Wizkid, whose birth name is Ayodeji Balogun was born on the 16th of July, 1990 in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria. He is the only son of 13 children born into a family with mixed religion – a Muslim father and a Christian mother. Interestingly, of all his siblings, he is the only male child.

Education

Wizkid was a student of the University of Lagos but due his love and passion for music he decided to drop. Eventually he is not bothered because his music has made way for him. The second richest musician in the country and his supposed rival, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido is a graduate and currently holds a second class upper.

Wizkid decided to go back to go school and this time studied in Lead City University, he eventually decided to quit after two semesters and concentrate on his music career.

Career

Wizkid grew up listening to the Legendary Fela and King Sunny Ade although didn’t start that in the genre of music. He started singing at the tender age of 11 in his church choir. He later formed his own crew which he called “Glorious Five”, a group he later left in 2010.

He formerly called himself ‘Lil Prinz’ before in 2006he started calling himself Wizkid; a name that has turned to a brand and is currently attracting mouth-watering deals.

Banky W and The E.M.E

Wizkid was signed to Empire Mated Entertainment (E.M.E)record owned by Banky W. This was where his talent grew and his songs started to be heard internationally. He released his first single “Hola at your boy”

Over the years he became consistent by dropping songs and eventually signed with Sony Music Entertainment, an organization that also signed fellow superstars like Tekno, Davido etc. This boosted his career and wealth.

At the age of 21years, Wizkid became a father. At first it was a rumor but later it was confirmed in 2011 that he was actually a father. His child’s mother was Sola Ogudugu who was still in the University as at that time.

He eventually denied it whenever he was asked by the media. It should be known that both parents knew what was going on between their children thus no one said anything about it. He could not deny any more when he posted a picture of his son on his official Instagram account in 2013. His son, Boluwatife Balogun was two years old then.

He had another child with another lady whose name was Binta Diamond. This therefore made it two children from two different women.
